Research Goals
The focus of my research is on the genetic improvement of asparagus bean and gourd. A distinctive feature of my research program is it’s positioning between basic research and extension and its emphasis on creation of improved cultivars, genetic stocks and research results that are directly useful to agriculture. My future research programs will focus on:
1. Construct a genetic linkage map of asparagus bean with AFLP, SNP and RAPD markers.
2. Identify molecular markers linked to genes for resistance to rust and powdery mildew of asparagus bean and its localization analysis.
3. Identify QTLs for some important quality and agronomic traits in asparagus bean such as pod yield, pod length, pod wall thickness and tenderness, etc.
4. Apply these markers in molecular assisted breeding of asparagus bean.
Current Research Activities:
1. Breeding a new gourd cultivar tolerance to continuous cultivation (2006~2009). Supported by Zhejiang Provincial Committee of Science and Technology.
2. Establishment of multi-resistance germplasms and MAS in asparagus bean breeding (2007~2009). Supported by Zhejiang Provincial Committee of Science and Technology.
1. 3. MAS in asparagus bean breeding (2005~2007).Supported by Zhejiang Provincial Committee of Science and Technology.
2. 4. Asparagus bean breeding (2004~2006).Supported by Zhejiang Provincial Committee of Science and Technology.
3. 5. MAS in asparagus bean breeding resistance to rust (2005~2007).Supported by Zhejiang Provincial Committee of Science and Technology.
4. 6. Studies on the physiological mechanisms of silicon mitigating the autotoxic and the differences among cultivars in asparagus bean (2006~2007), Supported by Zhejiang Provincial National Science Foundation.
5. 7. The localization analysis of Uv gene in asparagus bean (2007~2009), Supported by Zhejiang Provincial National Science Foundation.
